  1. Alright, I think it's best to just put all my thoughts in one place to make things clearer. I didn't really expect that revealing the new icon in a joke post would cause such a reaction. I initially dismissed it because, to be honest, the icon is a low priority for me, as there's a lot of stuff that still needs to be worked on to get the upcoming update ready, which is also why I wasn't very open to feedback, as I would much prefer to focus on getting feedback about the UI. I realize that was the wrong approach to the issue, hence why I'm writing this. Another reason is that the branding is a little different to how I planned it going forward. While currently, the icon and logo are sort of stuck together, I decided to separate it all out into three distinct bits: logo, icon, and mascots. I don't plan on changing that, they will remain separate. What is going to change is the icon itself. A recurring bit of criticism about the logo is that it doesn't feel related to Minecraft anymore. When I designed it, I just focused on making it readable. I tried to make it belong with the rest of the branding using evocative colors and shapes, but in the end, it appears that it lost too much character and ended up less appealing. As we speak, I'm currently working on a first iteration for a new design, which will hopefully tie-in with the program and the game it's based on: This new design is rather popular with the Mine-imator staff, and I hope it will be for the rest of you too. If there are any ideas or improvements you'd like to share, feel free to. Lastly, I'd like to apologize for my unprofessional and rude attitude. The rocky launch of Modelbench made it clear that transparency was important when it came to wanting to change how people use your program, but I hadn't realized that the icon would've been part of that too. I'll be sure to learn from that mistake and I hope we can move forward and work together in this next big step in the history of Mine-imator. Take care, y'all.

  4. Shoutout to @Voxy for putting up with my constant requests for vague close-up shots of all the new UIs we've worked on through the years. ? Mine-imator Community Edition 1.1.0 (Cancelled, revealed in 2016) Modelbench Beta (2018) Modelbench 1.0.0 (2020) Mine-imator 2.0.0 (2022) Really happy to see this 6-year long journey of a new UI coming to Mine-imator come full-circle in 2.0. I had my doubts when I first became a developer in 2017, but I'm glad we were persistent.

  13. Y'all need to stop antagonizing each other. Really hard to(and has been to) take this forum seriously when some of the most active users don't act their age. Pretty disappointed in a few members for how they've been acting recently, though while not breaking any forum rules. Regardless of how any situation started-- take the time to stop, grow up, and move on. That is all.

  16. Hey all! Yesterday, I wrote an announcement regarding the surprise reveal of what was then going to be the new icon for Mine-imator going forward, and how the negative reception of it made me reconsider this design choice. I took this opportunity to show you a different take on the icon, and judging by the overwhelmingly positive reactions, I think it's fair to say that we've got a winner on our hands! After a few minor tweaks and touch ups, I believe it's ready, waiting to be used once Mine-imator 1.3 launches. But wait, what about Modelbench? Well, obviously I couldn't leave its icon untouched! After all, the goal of the rebrand is to unify both apps into one identity, so it's only natural to give it a fancy new icon as well! There was one challenge to overcome. What could we put in that colorful hexagon? Putting a bunch of cubes seemed like an obvious answer, but it just didn't look quite right... The Mine-imator icon had a 3D, Minecraft styled item inside that hexagon, so... Modelbench would have to follow that template, or else it just wouldn't work. But what kind of item should it be? What object is best suited to illustrate the modeling process? What about a hammer? This was an idea from Nimi, that he had while we brainstormed. It could work, you can build stuff with one of those. The question was now, "what should it look like?". His proposal was a blacksmith's hammer, but I felt like it didn't fit the program's name too well. After all, it's called Modelbench, not Modelforge... (that would've been a neat name, though!) So, in the end, we settled on the good old claw hammer. And after a bit of quick rigging and tracing... Here they are! The Mine-imator family now has its own set of icons! I hope you'll like it just as much as the one I've shown yesterday, and once again, please share any feedback you might have! See you around!

  20. It'll still be a while till the next dev update, but after releasing a new alpha containing the new UI in Mine-imator for the beta testers and getting some feedback, I've decided to cancel the 1.3 update and release a 2.0 update next year. Make of this what you will.

  24. As announced by David, IPBoard, the software used to run the forums, has been updated to the latest version. Unfortunately, changes to the theming framework broke the Mine-imator Forums theme that has been with us for almost 6 years now, so I had to put something together to keep a bit of that spirit intact. However, please keep in mind that this theme is temporary. Some of you might already know that I've been working on a brand new design as part of the big rebrand/UI overhaul that's currently under progress. I've shared a few bits here and there, but I'll be making a proper announcement detailing all the changes once that's ready. If anything broke during the transition process, do let me know!

  32. Hello everyone, after some pondering, I've decided to take a break from devving(and Mine-imator stuff) after non-stop coding and involvement with Mine-imator since early 2016. During this break, Modelbench development will be put on hiatus and I will not be present on the Mine-imator Discord Server. I do not know how long this break will last, so in the meantime, send all bug reports relating to Mine-imator to david. And while you're here... in the past couple days I added every single Minecraft biome and custom biome colors(Foliage, grass & water) to Mine-imator for the next update, so look out for that shortly after Minecraft 1.13.

  33. I won FIRST place in the Desmos Global Math Art Contest! @david, I am dedicating this victory to you. You MADE my love for 3D graphics; I'm only realizing this now. I used to think that Minecraft was the reason for Mine-imator's success. But now it has dawned on me, the INGENUITY of the program is what made it great. You broke the limits of computer graphics back then, and I intend to follow you in your footsteps by reinventing 3D myself! I hope life is treating you well and stay safe! - Ezra Oppenheimer

  42. Sorry for the double status but I've been having some thoughts and only just got my finger on what exactly they are. I didn't really know why I took my little break but after people on foreign affairs talked about some of their problems I really started to figure out what was going on. Well, there were some personal things I wanted to fix, which I did, but I also realized some of those problems were caused by the same thing that caused the forums' problems, and I gave in. You see, the last straw, the nail in the coffin that made me take my break, was the profile picture thing. If you weren't online to see exactly what happened, basically me and a couple other people copied the profile picture of a certain user and mocked them a little. It was pretty harmless, but pretty toxic as well. That was when I got my first warning point in the last 2 years. That was when I knew there was a problem, I just didn't know exactly what problem drove me to some silly, immature, and kinda unnecessary joke. Older members have been leaving, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but new members have been taking their place. That isn't a bad thing either, but it can sometimes feel like they're overpowering good, wholesome content. Again, they have every right to post their creations, but there is a certain attitude among a lot of them. I keep feeling the need to say it, but none of this is anyone's fault. It was all happening kind of subconsciously, don't blame anyone for having a toxic attitude. Anyway, there are a lot of new users who I think just don't really understand criticism that well. It's okay to make bad content, it's normal. It is always possible to fix, and it should be encouraged to fix. But it seems like a lot of the newer users take emotional responses to people practicing this mindset. Criticism is always a good thing, and it kind of baffles me that anyone takes offense to any criticism. Whether or not it's good criticism is up for argument, but in any case, criticism should never be considered a personal offense, to you or your work. Still with me? Good, I'm just getting started. So this attitude, this attitude that implied criticism was worthless and that new users should be told they are perfect and that this attitude was the right attitude and that anyone who disagreed is just inherently rude, started to cause some problems. Older users who actually gave advice, sometimes jokes, couldn't help but feel offended by this new mindset. A lot of people were antagonized or invalidated, which only made things worse. These same older users felt the need to push their criticism further, getting more aggressive. After all, you can't really argue against the mindset of the newer users, so the only thing we know how to do is practice ours more aggressively. This escalated and only made it easier for new users to antagonize them, both sides thinking they're doing the right thing. This only created a very toxic atmosphere, with the divide getting bigger and bigger. Some new users felt the need to defend each other and gather together in groups, upvoting each other and downvoting others when there was a disagreement. There is more I could talk about that, but I'm pretty confident on the cause of some trivial things that piled up over the last couple months (more or less). This affected all of us, including me. I finally gave into the toxic atmosphere and I realized there was a problem I needed to fix. At the time I had no idea what was wrong with the community, so I just took a while off to refresh myself and think about all of it. In short, the whole community lost itself and made people feel unwelcome. The only change we can really make to fix it is personal improvement, nothing that can be encouraged. I think we all just need to kind of take a step back and keep an open mind to the input of other people. We're all important, and it's never healthy to invalidate other people, even if it's for the sake of helping yourself (yet still, in this case it does not help yourself). Happy day my friends.
