  1. It has begun.

It seems Microsoft is tightening is grip on Java Edition. They're forcing everyone to migrate to a Microsoft account. Their reasons for this are valid and make a lot of sense. But I fear it this is just the beginning.

I don't play Java as my main version but I do not want to see it become like Bedrock. Look what Microsoft has done to Bedrock: Marketplace, the persona skin system, freaking emotes.

I look at it as Java being developed by Mojang, whereas Bedrock is developed by Mojang and Microsoft.

Just to be clear, even though I don't like the direction they're taking Minecraft Bedrock, I still play and enjoy it frequently. For the most part it still follows Java in terms of gameplay.

its more of a convenience thing than just taking over java.

I'm just worried that they'll eventually corrupt Java.

    4. voodoo797

      voodoo797

I think they'll just add a few similarities between the two and not fully destroy the java experience. And as a bedrock+java player i can definitely say the highlights of the times i played on bedrock servers are egg wars and the hive

  2. Man, I would hate to have to learn English.I mean, I did. But if I didn't already speak it, it would really suck to learn.

Just look at this: through, though, cough, laugh, tough. They're pronounced throo, tho, coff, laff, tuff.

Whoever decided the spelling for these words was bonkers.

And while I'm at it, ya know what else is bonkers? The Imperial(or English) measurement system.

12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, 5280 feet in a mile. Seriously, who came up with these numbers!?

And why does the US still use this? Everyone else uses the Metric System, because it's infinitely superior. Everything is based on 10. A nice, even 10.

the only thing the imperial system is anywhere close to good for is to make people seem tall (6 feet sounds taller than 2.xx meters) but yeah its dumb and arbitrary

    3. Ghatos

      Ghatos

As a French I actually like English, it's so much simpler than French. Yeah it's richer than English but that just make it harder to learn: For example, let's use the word "do":

How do you do?   ==>   Comment tu vas?

Can you do it?   ==>   Es-ce que tu peux le faire?

What do you mean?   ==>   Qu'es-ce que tu veux dire?

Yep, one word in English, but 6 differents words in French depending of the sentence. And there's so many others examples like that.

having taken like 2 years of French in high school, and only remembering like 2 things from it, i'd have to agree.

  3. I guess one good thing about switching to Bedrock is i'll get the super duper graphics pack. When it finally releases, i won't hesitate. Just hope it doesn't run like crap on my xbox one.

@Swift Yet it perplexes me that they use the Bedrock engine for the unified Minecraft instead of Legacy Console. It is the most faithful to Java in terms of redstone, mob spawning, etc.

    3. Spontaneous Explosions

      Spontaneous Explosions

Console? oh no.For the first 4 years on console edition it was following after java, but in the past year and a half they'v been making it like bedrock. Also, all MC version but java are c++.

    4. Spontaneous Explosions

      Spontaneous Explosions

@RandomPr0file how is bedrock FAR behind? lets see what's missing from it that java has, shall we?

      Barriers

      Full structures blocks

      pick block in survival

I can't think o f anything else. And ik it was made with xbox one x in mind, but it will run on xbox one, just not as well.

And when super duper graphics does release, they will probably be options to turn off and on certain effects.

  4. Wow! Todays Bedrock 1.12 beta adds a lot of cool new stuff that java doesn't have!

Like new items can be added in resource packs, and are now in JSON format.

New blocks can be added in the same way

Command blocks FINALLY have auto-complete(actually...Java does have that)

    but....no foxes....YET.

@Ghatos Ya know what's funny? Every Bedrock platform has keyboard and mouse support ?

@crustyjpeg They're working on making mods on Bedrock similar to how they are on Java where you can pretty much do anything with it, but it will be much easier on Bedrock.

Already you can add new mobs, with custom AI and everything. Soon blocks and items will be fully customization.

However, for more complicated mods they have the scripting api.

    3. Ghatos

      Ghatos

Yeah but that means you have to put your console on a table so you can put the keyboard and the mouse on it too

And if you want to play it with a keyboard and a mouse, then why you buyed the bedrock edition and not the java edition? we got the updates before you, and we also have weekly snapshots

Also: "new items can be added with resource pack", great but you need a PC to do that easily, and once you're done, you have to find a way to transfer it to the console and it's just super annoying (maybe you can make it directly on the console but using a controller to make a resource pack seems pretty hard to do)

    4. Spontaneous Explosions

      Spontaneous Explosions

It's easy to transfer it to console. Any why would you need to "put your console on a table"? every heard of wireless?

And the reason I bought bedrock and not java is because I want play on Xbox.

Also, most of the time, Bedrock gets updates first. Java will get 1.14 next Tuesday, but Bedrock already has most of it. Wait...actually It has all of it, but it's behind the experimental gameplay option.

  7. I think Super Duper Graphics Pack will be released this year, or at at least something will be said at Minecon. Reason being that since the only reason for the delay was to re-write the graphics engine(just over 3 years ago), it looks like they'v about finished up with it. They announced a name, and Java's graphics are also being redone(and menus I think?) Maybe it's just me, but it looks like 1.15 will bring all this stuff to Minecraft.

      Spontaneous Explosions

Also, I don't understand not 'trusting' them.  First off, Bedrock, as it is now, has only technically existed since 2017(before, or course, it was PE), so Java had a great big head start on many, many things. Bedrock has caught up quite a bit since, but they'v got a ways to go. They also have multiple platforms to take care of, each with their own set of bugs. They're also have to fix the Xbox One version since the first time was very very rushed, thanks to Microsoft. With things like foxes, item frames on floor, map markers, and many others, they have to chose which ones to prioritize.

  9. Look Valve, a new Half-Life game is great. Super exciting. But still so utterly disappointing that it's VR exclusive.

If they were to make a Portal 3 VR exclusive game, I would be so freaking mad I'd....I'd...I'd spend whatever amount of money I need to, so I could play it.

    Maybe they'll re-release Half-Life Alyx as a regular game, after a while.

I looked more into the type of gameplay HL Alyx will have.

I really really really wish I could play it, but I'd have to buy more than a VR kit. My pc just barely doesn't meet the minimum requirements :(

If it did, I'd buy the cheapest compatible vr thing.

However if this game were to come to PSVR, that's waaay more affordable than everything else I'd need.

  10. So this decade is less than a month away from coming to it's end.

      Aronanners

Nostalgic sentiments towards the old logo aside, the animation is a little jank by itself (though it fits pretty well alongside the jingle they have playing alongside it) but the actual logo itself is weird enough to be distinct and hopefully become more recognizable as more people get used to it though.

  14. Why are people always talking about 'framerates'??

When you buy a computer or a console or a monitor people always wanna know how many 'frames per second' it runs at. Who cares?! A second is a second. As long as a game can move your player from point a to point b in one second it doesn't matter how many images it draws in that time, be it 30, 60, 500 or 1.

Framerate is the least important aspect to gaming.

I can play Minecraft at 8 fps, and no one can tell me I can't!

Edit: I'm not being serious. This is an apparently poor attempt at humor, seeing as its difficult to convey sarcasm when its just text on a screen. ?

" Framerate is the least important aspect to gaming. "

this is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard, how do you play a game at 8 FPS? guess what, you cant, it'll be so slow the experience is ruined, and the game isn't fun, nobody wants a slow PC like that because having at least 60 FPS makes the game enjoyable, and fun to play

edit,  know now this is a joke, but there was like no sign of it being so, besides a reply that i didn't see

    3. 9redwoods

      9redwoods

FPS may not be important for sandbox games, but it does ruin immersion, and a low FPS could cause headaches and nausea without any type of motion blur.

It's super important for FPS games though. Insanely important for your performance and accuracy.

    4. crustyjpeg

      crustyjpeg

I'm honestly not a fan of /s, it kinda ruins the impact of using sarcasm.    I think a better way to convey sarcasm would be either making very heavy use of words like "totally", using italics a lot and putting a few good counter-arguments in your statement while treating them as if they're stupid.    And honestly I think Spontaneous Explosions here did a perfectly fine job at conveying sarcasm.

An example since I'm pretty terrible at explaining things:
"The 1911 is clearly the only good choice of handgun.    I mean, come on!    It won two world wars!    Now, don't hit me with that 'Those were over 70 years ago' nonsense, it can't have been that long ago..."

@Swift It has been out for just over 1 year, and there is still a bug on xbox that's been there since beta, that seems like an easy fix. These idiots don't know what they're doing, porting minecraft to xbox. That's what 4j studios does! They port games to consoles. It's their job. Mojang doesn't know the first thing about doing that.

@Skjold I'm sure they do, but if there going to kill a game that is perfect and replace it with an incomplete downgrade of that version, fixing up the xbox version should really be their top priority

  23. Many times I'v posted something about Bedrock edition, and most of the time many people like to reply with reason why Bedrock is inferior, or how much they hate, ect. And I always argue for Bedrock. Bedrock is not inferior to Java because it is lacking features that Java has. By that line of reasoning, Java is inferior to Bedrock as well. I think Bedrock is better mainly for one reason: I have to.

Minecraft is a game I have enjoyed many hours playing, and will continue to play. I played for 4 years on Xbox 360 Edition, and created many worlds and builds that I don't want to lose.  I used to have to wait almost an entire year in between large feature updates, and I looked forward to every one, and still do. But long story short, Xbox 360 edition was canceled. I used to hate Bedrock as well, but for good reason. They basically released a beta and called it a release. But on the past almost 3 years, it has improved astronomically, and is now a game I can stand to play. So to keep my worlds and get updates bedrock was my only option. I could'v switched to Java by converting my worlds of course, but most of those worlds were built with my siblings in split screen. Playing Minecraft together is my favorite aspect of the game.

I think one main reason some Java player hate Bedrock is because they don't play it. Sure you may have gotten Windows 10 Edition for free back when it still sucked, but you may not have really played it. My little brother was an avid Bedrock hater for over a year, always telling me how bad it sucked ect, but 2 weeks ago I finally got him to convert his 360 world. After playing for an hour and seeing all the new stuff, I haven't heard a complaint since. And I'm not saying that you should switch to Bedrock or anything.

So yeah, I will still post statuses about Bedrock and how this happened, or how they did this, and blah blah blah. If you don't like that, you don't have to read them or comment.

Anyway, in light of today's occasion I wanted to state my thoughts on the "Java Bedrock War", and why I play it. I do not hate Java, I do not think one is really better than the other(although if I had to pick, it would be Java.)

@Dannyboi Here's how the Bedrock marketplace is different from the xbox 360/one edition store(which no one ever complains about): you can also get stuff for free. But if you want the packs that are on Marketplace, you have to pay. But there's still a lot free. There's this website full of lot and lots of free dlc which I look at often. MCPEDL

Wait, you got Bedrock on ps3? Uh, no. and assuming you're referring to the console edition, I totally agree that it doesn't fell the same. Doesn't look the same, isn't the same.

While I do think Bedrock is inferior to Java, I still enjoy playing that version every once in a while.

  24. I'm curious. Whichever you like better, Java or bedrock, what single feature makes you like it best above all other features? For me it's the flying mechanics. On Bedrock and Console you pretty much come to a complete halt after releases the keys or thumbsticks or whatever, whereas on Java you drift for a bit. You might like this(or at the very least be used to it?) but I don't like building when I have to constantly course correct.
