Hello again! It's time for the second ever Mine-imator Forums Survey! For those who weren't around for the first one in July of last year, this survey is just to anonymously gather the general opinions of users on the forums, and a general sense of the mindset the community has on certain things. It's totally anonymous and we don't ask any personal questions - there are no questions in the survey that allow anyone to identify you. It's purely for getting your opinions on forums-related topics. It took me 7 minutes to take, it'll probably take the slowest person 10 minutes at the very longest. So if you're interested, here's the link! The results will be shared in a few days, after the responses stop coming in.

It's honestly garbage they decided to do that, I feel like they're spitting on his grave at this point.

Damn, I really wanted to answer some of those questions. If only I knew it existed...
Hopefully we get the same questions again?
For the most part, it is the same questions, I just removed some pointless ones and added a few better ones. It's also much easier to actually read through, and much more tidy. Hopefully I get even more responses now that people know about it.

Try turning "texture filtering" on and off again.

Nimi said he tried that, but it just didn't work the way he wanted to and probably wouldn't ever work. From what I understand, just some finickiness and lag that was out of their hands. Don't quote me on that though, it's possible I'm wrong.

this reminds me of how hilarious some of the answers were, and also gives me traumatic flashbacks to the one-word questions
I removed the one-word questions for the Spring one, they turned out to be harder to answer than I thought and didn't really give anything useful back. I replaced them with easier to answer and more productive questions.

Hello! The Mine-imator Forums Survey is a biannual volunteer survey that aims to learn a little more about the users of the forums and get their opinions out there. It's completely anonymous, so we don't take IP addresses, it doesn't ask anything that lets us identify you, and it doesn't ask any genuinely personal questions. It's all about your experience on the forums, not who you are as a person. We used SurveyHero for the first survey but due to limitations that made the survey taking experience slightly obnoxious, we've switched to Google Forms.
The first Mine-imator Forums Survey was conducted July 1st, 2018, with approval of former moderator, Emunator, and it was more successful than I anticipated. So, I decided to set a biannual schedule for bringing the forums together and learning more about each other. This thread is just to have a central place to find the information from specific surveys over time. As such, it'll be updated with each new survey.
Schedule: Spring survey is April 2nd, and the Fall survey is September 30th.

I don't play GTA but this looka nice

Unfortunately there aren't much options when it comes to dialogue without voice acting. You could import different fonts into Mine-imator and that'll make it a little more interesting, and maybe learn some lip syncing (although you wouldn't be syncing it to anything). But like I said, other than that, you may be out of luck unless I'm forgetting something big.

Ok, I tried changing those, but in my own opinion I think that removing the shadows between the parts makes it look less believable:

Ah, I think you're actually right. But you pulled off the size change really well, I think it looks great!
-
If you right-click the Imgur link and click View Image or Open Image in New Tab, use that link instead when it opens up.
Looks alright. Could definitely look smoother since you still see the size difference when it comes to the different blocks and it kinda gives it away, but maybe if you changed the lighting a little to make it simpler, and not show much shadow between parts, it may look more believable. Definitely keep going with it, I'd be interested if you could pull it off.

Oh hey I said kind of the same thing in my Tips and Advice for New Forumers topic in my signature.

Well no need to downvote the guy. Welcome to the forums! This may not be the most helpful bit of information but I'm certainly interested in what you can cook up. Small beginnings!

There are no age ratings for the program itself. Anyone can use the program and it doesn't include anything kids would feel remotely uncomfortable viewing. The forums are 13+ unless with direct parent permission, but the program is free for everyone.
-
Maybe we could get something similar to the alpha slider for individual sound objects, and a master sound object to edit as well.
-
I don't really understand what's happening in it but I think the editing is okay.
-
For the last part, I think you can create any kind of surface or block and set the Texture to the camera. Not positive, I'd have to check, but I know it's possible. Great job dude, just feels super slick.

Do the shots just need to be a lot more focused, or tilted or...?
I'd say just try to add more lights, mess with the blur or bloom or other camera settings, see if a shot could look better with more scenery in a certain place, if a bit could use more detail you think you're capable of adding, etc. Just play around with it and see what looks good. I don't think there's ever just one way to do it.
-
Damn, 15 minutes? I can only dream of having that much patience. Good job, maybe try putting more work into making individual shots look more polished, instead of a lot of quick okay-looking shots. A lot of okay-looking shots isn't bad for a Minecraft animation, but since you have the patience to make a 15 minute animation with it, I'm curious to see how good a 5 minute animation from you could look.

How big is your schematic? If it's too big the program runs out of memory. I'd recommend breaking it up into pieces then importing them individually.

[RESULTS] Mine-imator Forums Survey April 2019
in Forum discussion
Posted · Edited by Rollo
Tidied it up a little
Hello again! This survey had 47 responses, that's 7 more than last time! Progress! It's time to review the results of the April 2019 survey! Some interesting comparisons to the previous survey, I'd love to hear what you guys think. New organization system that looks and feels much nicer than the previous survey btw.
Section 1: The Basics
When did you join the forums?
Pretty even split! You should check out the July 2018 survey too, interesting comparison.
Do you feel like a newbie?
2019
Surprising amount of newbies that don't feel like newbies
I'm just kidding, but it is interesting.
2018
2017
2016
2015
2014 and below
Section 2: Discovery and Purpose
How did you find Mine-imator?
The options were as follows:
The entries people put in "other":
How did you find out about the forums?
Do you actually use Mine-imator?
What do you use Mine-imator for?
'Make wallpapers, animations, and rigs" You know you can click multiple boxes right? Click all of them! By the way, most of the ones you can't see are things like "all of the above" or "all of them except this one". YOU CAN CHECK MULTIPLE BOXES!
How do you make music in Mine-imator? Oooo
What do you use the forums for?
The fourth one down says "Used to share creations, now I just hang around" Another one that got squished says "I both share animations and look at other animations" YOU CAN CHECK MULTIPLE BOXES :DD
Kind of obnoxious how Google Forms cuts off the ends of a lot of them and doesn't let me see them. Still better than SurveyHero I suppose which didn't even allow "Other" options.
Do you use Modelbench?
Section 3: Outside Interaction
Do you keep in touch with people from the forums outside of the forums?
Are you a member of the official Mine-imator Discord server?
Section 4: Mindset
Low quality, not offensive. Downvote?
Made well, but from a game you dislike. Downvote?
Do you find that downvotes and upvotes help you as a creator?
Would you prefer if people told you what's wrong, or just ignore it if they don't like it?
A unanimous "tell me". If it's 100% maybe it's a dumb question. Expected at least a little "Ignore it" because of the "IGNORE IF YOU DON'T LIKE FAD" titles.
Do you believe "hate" is something that exists on the forums?
Do you believe there is a difference between "constructive criticism" and normal criticism?
This one really interests me, I don't know about you guys.
Section 5: Miscellaneous Questions
Do you enjoy participating in collabs? (collaborations)
Do you wish it was easier to find collabs to join?
David, hmu about that Clubs idea I brought up a while back
Is there anything you're tired of seeing on the forums, besides things like fad?
If you use Mine-imator, why do you use it instead of Blender, Cinema4D, etc?
Do you actually play Minecraft?
Do you think of anyone differently based on how much rep they have? If so, how?
I don't know.
No, he is still the same person as when he was few rep points.
no, i dont think about thinking anyone differently based on how much rep they have wont be a person you always think of. (sorry if it doesn't make sense for you)
Half the time I never even glance at their rep counter, so no. I usually don't think that way. I'll just be more cautious if a user has an overall negative rep count, as there's typically reasons as to why they have so much negative rep.
alot of creative things, tell jokes in a project just like ethanial
Reputation is a direct quantification of community dedication and activity, more of which yields higher social capital. In other words, yes.
More rep usually means they are a Veteran MI user. Now i know this isnt the case some times, but its a sign that they know what they are doing most of the time!
A bit. If someone has negative rep, they're probably either a newbie or a toxic person.
Yes, but it depends if he is new or not.
I don't think if people differently just because of rep, but also their join date.
I do, but not negatively, more like they are just starting and I feel like I could help them.
It's kind of a first impression for me.
I feel intimidated by all of the people with really high Rep, and I feel like I'll never achieve their level of skill.
If they have negative rep, I'll watch them a bit more closely than the latter.
i dont know
(blank)
if the high rep then they good if not then they bad
Although not entirely, rep is a way of knowing how useful said member's content is.
Maybe. Depends on how long ago they joined.
Not really
Nope, everyone should be treated the same, nobody is supirior
If they have more rep, I tend to think that they must be fairly liked by the community, and make good content.
Sort of. If someone with high rep gives cc, I usually listen more, unless the other user is either A. Giving good cc or B. Seem knowledgeable
Well if someone have more rep than the other that he have many good thing or quality thing!
Kind of, if you have low rep, im going to try and get you up on rep.... If you have high rep, im most likley going to congratulate you/ try to do something based on your image/animation.
Yeah, anybody with negative rep I view that they are bad, but could be doing better if they just listened to peoples advice. But alas human stupidity is unimaginably stupid.
There are also just 12 plain "No" which I compacted into this message for convenience.
Section 6: Ratings
Why do you still visit the forums?
How inviting to newcomers would you say the forums are?
AVERAGE: 2.96/5
How comfortable do you feel on the forums?
AVERAGE: 4.17/5
How much would you say the forums like you personally?
AVERAGE: 3.97/5
How good do you think the forums are for sharing and looking at creations?
AVERAGE: 7.81/10
How good do you think the official Discord is for talking and sharing creations?
AVERAGE: 6.34/10
Is there anything the official Discord server could improve on?
Section 7: Final Thoughts
How much did you like the survey?
AVERAGE: 4.26
Thank you
Anything you'd like to say about the survey? Or anything in general?
That's all, folks! I'll keep your feedback in mind and make sure the next survey in September is as good as it can be. Hopefully some of the results of this survey can help us fix some problems, get a better understanding of each other, all that jazz. Stay tuned!
