__Mine__ got a reaction from Kapslock in When the Nether Update was announced I was absolutely over the moon. I have never bee
Honestly, I really want to be happy for this update. But I just can't help but feel like it's only going to trivialise more aspects of the game and make "Survival" mode even more of a joke than it already is.
Probably because most of the features are unbalanced as hell, which is exactly the kind of problem most mods almost always have, hence the understandable "feels too mod-like" mentality.
I love the design of the Warden (intimidating, but oddly also rather cute), but the fact it deals 7 hearts of damage to full Netherite armour is ridiculous.
When you have an underground Overworld mob dealing more damage than all of the game's so-called "bosses" and requires end-game armour just to be able to tank a single hit, there's a big balance problem.
I like the addition of Copper, solely on the fact it's the first Overworld ore since Emeralds in 1.3, over eight years ago. The fact the block slowly fades to a green colour over time is a nice touch of realism, but unless there's a way to prevent it from changing colour, I don't see it being that useful for building.
I absolutely despise the addition of the Lightning Rod though, as it allows for Charged Creeper farms to be made completely automatic near-effortlessly, totally trivialising the mechanics and acquisition of Charged Creepers (turning what used to be an extremely rare, genuine threat into nothing more than a mob-head slave that no-one takes seriously or even gives a second thought to), and making the most exploitable mob in the entire game even more exploitable.
    Seriously Mojang, stop it.
I really don't like the Archaeology feature. It just doesn't fit in at all and seems useless, as you said. Something people will look at for five minutes and then promptly forget exists.
    And then there's this:

Imagine adding a feature in a caving/mining update that invalidates caving/mining almost entirely.
I mean, it was pretty blatant enough with Mojang's reluctance to update caves and mining given they'd ignored the cries for the past 4-5 years, but the features they're adding really feels like they're actively trying to discourage players from mining in the first place, especially considering how easy it is to get Diamonds etc. anywhere else.
Honestly, in my (unpopular) opinion this game has been going downhill for years. Mojang just seem to enjoy trivialising Survival mode, to the point that it's basically become "Creative mode with extra steps".
...but yeah, those are my thoughts on the update. I cannot stress enough that I really want this update to succeed in what it's designed for, but given Mojang's track record, as well as the features we've seen so far, I'm really not holding my breath...
    ...yet.
Damn that was long, fully expecting downvotes for this tbh.

I agree that adding mobs for the sake of cute and endangered is not the mentality to go, but as far as I know they at least have more usefulness than polar bears and pandas. I like the idea of an axolotl army! (but they really could have had a fantasy spin, that'd be cool)

Im sick of them adding mobs for the purpose of "omg so cute and endangered!" I want more fantasy stuff dammit. They could have easily added the Axolotl and put a fantasy spin on it. Like yeah, it's big but that's not interesting at all.
