Well, it was a group of people that was against the increasing price of diesel (diesel cars are more expensive, but diesel was cheaper than gasoline, so in long term, diesels cars were better than gasoline cars). But now, many of them have differents opinions, some people took the opportunity to vandalize stores and destroy stuff, litteraly every week we heard that cars and stores have been burned or destroyed (mostly happens in Paris), and the number of yellow vest is decreasing day after day...
They were 300 000 in the beginning, now they're only 20 000.
There's also others reasons but I don't know them because I'm not interested in politics
