The down-rep button is and should only be used in cases where the content in question is objectively bad and adds nothing to the forums. Before down-repping, you should throw all opinions out and try to think objectively rather than subjectively. Is this post unhelpful, toxic, or rude? Is this post’s subject overused, or generally not appropriate? If the content seems bad only subjectively, rather than down-repping, try to help the poster understand why you dislike the content by writing a comment explaining everything you dislike, and (optionally) potential ways they could improve their content.
Consider up-repping comments that support your points rather than down-repping the topic.
