crustyjpeg reacted to david in Dev update #22: Mine-imator 2.0 in C++!?
    Greetings!
With the 10 year anniversary of Mine-imator coming up, I’ve decided to temporarily rejoin the developer team and add some long requested features you will soon be able to download in an upcoming version 2.0 pre-release arriving late May/early June!
@Nimi has done some phenomenal work on new features (many not even announced yet!), however the graphics engine used (GameMaker) has been a big obstacle towards optimizing the software and ensuring good framerates and memory usage with all the new additions. Therefore I have jumped in to lend a hand and I've finally been able to successfully migrate Mine-imator to a new graphics engine using the C++ programming language for added performance, optimized memory (x64) and multi-platform support. For all the technical details see the bottom of the post.
In order to facilitate the development we have greatly appreciated your support throughout the years, creating and sharing content, giving suggestions, reporting bugs and especially with donations! Mine-imator has for the past decade been completely free and will remain so, but your donations have helped keep it alive with webserver costs and directly funded the development of version 2.0 (for instance, I had to get a MacBook for this update 😉). If you have not donated yet to the development team or wish to continue supporting, see the link below:
Donate to Mine-imator development ($5+ one-time or recurring)
With all that aside, let’s get to the new features found in the first 2.0 pre-release, later followed by additional releases with Nimi’s UI changes, animation improvements and rendering features (See Dev Update #21)!
    Let’s get HYPED!

Starting off small yet useful, an actually working Cancel option when clicking the program’s X!

Next up something for the multi-monitor animators: No more crammed workspaces, simply detach your timeline or camera view into a second window and drag it to another screen!

Scenery/.schematic file loading has been multi-threaded and optimized to be around 10 times faster as well as taking up less memory, allowing much bigger regions than before! In addition, the scenery is cached and instantly loaded upon re-opening your project (with no loading bar).

Mine-imator will soon be able to handle much more complex projects with a speedup between 3-5 times compared to earlier versions when rendering many objects. This is made possible with CPU optimizations and combining objects into batches before sending them to the GPU for rendering (Mine-imator will not be allocating more CPU resources compared to current versions, just using them more efficiently).

Linux users have been left out of using Mine-imator for 10 years, but no more! Version 2.0 will run smoothly on Debian/Ubuntu operating systems with all the same features!
(P.S. If you have another favorite Linux distribution let us know)

Same goes for Mac OS users after countless requests!

Finally, the “Import from World” option has been completely reworked to have a 3D interface for more easily selecting a section of your world to animate. Despite being 3D and having more options, it will also load worlds much more quickly compared to the current version and in general be more stable. It will also be integrated into the software rather than opening a pop-up window, and accessed with a shortcut in the toolbar.

Behind the scenes of the 2.0 C++ port:
(Things will get technical and nerdy, you have been warned!!)

Be sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming pre-releases, following our Twitter page or joining our Discord chat might be a good idea. 😎✌️
Once again thank you for all the support through the years and keep on animating our favorite block game!
    /David

It's a little tough to say this, but here goes:
Over the past couple weeks, as I said I would, I've tried to get back into working on the Armory - but it's been going nowhere.    I've given it some thought and have come to the realization that I can't really continue this project as a consistent/major thing much longer, for several reasons such as diversifying interests, having a job now, general personal stuff, the fact that most of my friends on this site have mostly or completely moved on, and admittedly just losing some interest in the Armory itself.
So, as much as I'd like to keep this going forever, I simply no longer have the time to do this consistently without making myself miserable.
Now, I'm not going to just leave it at that and let it die just like that.    That'd be lame.
So I'm ditching the plans I had for a return update on the 28th of this month, and instead I'm going to get together all the unreleased stuff I've got laying around (mostly ww2 update stuff), remake the lowest quality weapons in the Armory, get the attachments in a better/more versatile state, and try to knock out a few requests and essential/iconic weapons, and put it all in one big 'ol update sometime in January to give the Armory a satisfying end and leave it in a state where there isn't anything I'm dissatisfied with.
I should note however, that this doesn't mean I will completely stop working on the Armory after that.    I've got some neat update ideas laying around and there's still an obscene amount of requests that I'd still rather get through if I can.      So chances are I'll set aside a couple weeks every now and then throughout 2022 and randomly release some weapons and stuff, it just won't be frequent or consistent.
Also it's probably obvious but I'm closing off requests for good now, although if someone urgently needs a specific gun for a project of theirs I'd be more than happy to set aside a little time to make it for them.

I want to end this post by just saying thank you so goddamn much to the people who helped out by making animations and weapons for this, made requests, made the original idea that I blantantly stole, and perhaps most of all those who used stuff from the Armory in their animations.  (except in monster school anims smh my head)
You guys made this project both possible and worthwhile, and this has really been one of the best parts of my life thus far.

crustyjpeg reacted to TheLuigiNoidMan in G3/CETME
The G3 (3rd Gewehr) is a German assault rifle that was made off of the CETME rifle that was being worked on in Spain during the 50s, which in turn was based off of the StG-44. This technically means that the G3 is a direct descendant of the original WW2 StG. Its name came from having been the third rifle tested for Germany's own police force, as
    1. Germany was no longer allowed to make their own guns due to WW2
    2. They had no military, and the Soviet threat was very heavy in their area
    3. They tested multiple designs from around Europe and America, which led to the 3rd option, the CETME rifle from Spain, having been the most favorable
It still sees minor use within Germany and various other countries today, having been mainly replaced by the later G36. Its design features would soon be directly implemented into the MP5, which shares features with the G3 internally and externally.

Update: I have also made a major reskin for the original gun that inspired the G3, the CETME Model C.
Originally lead by a German designer that worked on the original STG-44, a team at CETME developed a promising new Assault Rifle that was a good competitor against Belgium's brand new FAL, the Model A. After a few modifications, it became the Model B. The German Bundeswehr saw potential in the design, and asked for a few changes, such as a caliber conversion. This led to the original competition that would decide Western Germany's new standardized rifle. Of course, Germany did not directly adopt exports of this new rifle, instead producing their own copy (the G3 itself), but Spain would adopt it regardless, being in use for many years to come.
Images of this other model can be found here.

    Additions/changelog:

As for the future of the Armory:
Although this update's kinda meant as a way to close the Armory off, I do still enjoy working on it.     I'll likely keep updating the Armory periodically for atleast another year, it just won't be very frequently as I've got a load of other stuff I want to do.     Don't expect anything, but don't expect nothing.
Requests for the most part are closed and won't be re-opened, but if there's a specific weapon you want for a project I'll gladly make it for you right away - just shoot me a PM here or on Discord and I'll get it to you as quickly as I can, and it'll wind up on the Armory publicly shortly after.
Lastly, I just want to say thank you to everyone who's been involved with or used models from the Armory, I'm really amazed at how far this thing's managed to go thanks to y'all.

Oh, also a couple things about this update:
    1. I'm gonna try and make animations for a bunch of the guns here because currently very few have 'em, I will also try and do the same for some existing ones.
    2. If you run into any issues with anything here, please let me know and I'll try to fix them as soon as I can.   (may take a while anyways)

The muzzle flashes there are pretty simple particles really.    Turn off Spawn Constantly, use a small set of sprites out of the basic smoke particle, make 'em a randomized white-yellow-orange color, and make the animation stupid fast so they only show up for a frame or two.    Then just tweak everything else until you've got a look you like.    I'd personally recommend using a lot of randomization on the size and rotation of them.

    Hello.

So I just made this model character based from "The Secrets of How We're Making the Warden" by Minecraft YouTube. The video shows how they make the model character from the pre-production to the final product called Warden we know today. I'm really happy that they show the process of the Warden character and showing us the prototype warden called Trypophobia. The concept of Trypophobia is very out-of minecraft and this making me to make this model for the community.

Here the video about "The Secrets of How We're Making the Warden" :

Here is the image of the model :

This model Typophobia is free to download and you can add/change it the model or the texture you want. You can make it as a rig for the project or anything, just make sure don't claim this model as yourself and no need to add the credit since I make this just for fun ?

crustyjpeg got a reaction from Nzshark6 in The Modelbench Armory

You guys made this project both possible and worthwhile, and this has really been one of the best parts of my life thus far.

crustyjpeg got a reaction from Duychung in WWII German Tank pack (Panzer IV, Ostwind, StuG IV, Nashorn Tank Destroyer)
This is a collection of three four tanks built on the Panzer IV chassis, those being the Panzer IV itself, the Flakpanzer IV "Ostwind" [or "East wind"], the StuG IV, and the Nashorn Tank Destroyer
Along with that, I've included three four different paintjobs/skins [dunkelgrau/dark grey, gelbbraun/yellow-brown, hinterhalt-tarnung/ambush camouflage, and white-wash], and some attachments to give a bit of personality to your tank.

    Additional notes:
The tracks don't move because that's nearly impossible in Modelbench/Mine-Imator.     I would recommend both moving the wheels and using particles, as this will make it look more like it's moving. These are pretty demanding for Mine-Imator, so be prepared for a performance drop.     To make it work better, I'd advise disabling Real-Time Rendering in the Interface section of Settings.   That way you won't make the program unusable when previewing how it looks rendered. I would appreciate if you tag me when you use this. [type @ and then my username, it should look like this: @crustyjpeg]    That way I'll be notified of that post and can see it. If you use this in a Monster School video I will personally come to your house in a StuG and shoot it to to the ground, and then drive over its remains.   [unless it's a parody where a stug goes to monster school and shoots it to the ground and drives over its remains, or something like that]

Thanks for taking a look at this, I hope you like it.
