Emaniplex got a reaction from Ethaniel in The reason I dont like gay pride is because it’s stupid. I don’t see straight people
Everyone... experiences bullying. Everyone will be dealt unfairly in life.
The reasons that cause these things to happen can range from being gay to being Christian, from being an atheist to being Asian, white, or a Jew. From having mental disorders or physical shortcomings.
What exactly are you arguing? That gay people get treated far worse than racial minorities, people with eating disorders, etc? That in the past they were treated any worse than Jews or blacks? That the amount of them that suffer trauma or abuse is a higher ratio than people who suffer in general? That's probably true for transgenders, but instead of giving them the proper therapy and care that they need this movement seems to only enable them and encourage others down this path that causes almost half of them to attempt suicide.
The biggest example of a hate crime against gay people was the tragedy committed by a muslim extremist at that gay bar in Florida. Do you think you hear about every time whites or blacks murder each other in viscous ways? Your preference to the "plight" of gay people in America is by design, the result of what we choose to pay attention to as a society. In reality, with the exception of transgender folks, injustice rakes its claws across us all to different degrees, for reasons that include being gay but also much, much more.

meh i hate myself so i'm going to chuck my opinion into this dumpster fire
I personally think discrimination against homosexuals does exist in pretty much all places, however, in places like the US it's very rare.     Still a problem, just blown way out of proportion by SJWs.
okay there it is please be more civil you buffoons

In America gay people are doing just fine. They're being oppressed and killed in backwards countries, a lot being those who follow Islam, but then again so are many other groups like women and atheists.
I don't really see the point of a month in recognition for them unless it focuses on those who are actually being oppressed. Otherwise, as Colonel said, they're contradicting the narrative that they're ordinary people. I think Morgan Freeman once spoke about how having a Black History Month only makes the divide between blacks and the general population more evident, and that we'd be better off without putting so much emphasis on our identity.
I have no problem with what they do on their own or with each other, so in that sense I guess I have no issue with the celebration. It's just the way it's carried out seems poorly aimed to us.

Okay okay okay, I'm going to summarize everything I'm trying to say since this has turned into quite the mess.
I believe the LGBTQ+ movement should exist. I think they should be allowed to be who they are, regardless of the country they live in or their sexuality. I am completely fine with people taking pride in who they are.
Now, knowing that, I want the best for the movement as a whole right? I want the movement to succeed. However, looking at what's happening during these parades used to celebrate pride, there are some other things along with them that I think will generally hurt the movement.
As we all know, there are some pretty bad stereotypes associated with gay people, not all of them true. These stereotypes can be strengthened, however, when we see exaggerated things done at these parades - even if those things don't have to do with those specific stereotypes. It's not about taking pride itself, it's about the side effects these parades bring, and how the rest of the world views it. Again, it's not the taking pride part I don't like.
And the "too much pride" argument was one of my weaker points but I'll explain it anyway.
Gay people want to be treated equally right? They want to change society so that it accepts them. While that's a great mindset and should be had, the whole idea of LGBTQ is pride. Being proud of who you are. Again, that's a great mindset and I have no problems with that. But they also contradict each other. They say "we don't get recognized as much as we should compared to straight people." But then they also get a whole month dedicated to appreciating themselves. From an outside standpoint, it doesn't look like they need more help. And some outside perspectives will look at it and say "what are you talking about? I'm straight and that's pretty cool."
The example I made in my first post about the #LikeAGirl movement and #LikeABoy still applies. To summarize it, Always made a commercial showing girls being proud of who they were, and starting the hashtag #LikeAGirl to combat sexism. Shortly after, a few men thought "Well psh, why do they get all the recognition? Guys are cool too!" See, I don't agree with either #LikeAGirl or #LikeABoy. While again, it's fine in taking pride you're a girl and showing you're just as strong as guys. But the problem was instead of putting boys and girls on an equal playing field, showing them as complete equals, they focused solely on the women. Of course that doesn't sound that bad at all from Always's perspective; women (supposedly) are discriminated against and deserve special help. But the reason #LikeABoy came after it is because seeing women getting so much power at once can look really bad to them, especially since social justice is basically everywhere and feminists are allowed to tell you you're a feminist because you believe in equal rights (but that's a whole other discussion).
Taking that idea back to the LGBTQ+ movement. Seeing I made a status update about that movement before, my opinion is no surprise when it comes to the parades the LGBTQ is throwing. When we have a whole month dedicated to the exact thing #LikeAGirl was trying to do, people are going to start doing the same things. Straight people are going to think "well why don't I get a month? Or even a holiday?" I'm going to say this yet again, I have no problem with the LGBTQ+ movement, and I am fine with people taking pride. It's just that I think they should be more careful when displaying it in a way that will cause people to think of gays in the wrong way. Of course we all know homosexuals are still at a lack of rights in other countries. But they won't care. They'll care about why they don't get as much recognition as gay people.
Tying that back to what I started with, gay people want recognition. Then they have huge pride parades and since social justice is everywhere, there's no escape from at least seeing it and having an opinion on it. After these parades give homosexuals recognition, the people who the LGBTQ was trying to get recognition from now feels to be on the other side, and want recognition for themselves.
It's a vicious cycle I've seen all too many times and I don't want it to happen to the LGBTQ community.
Now, what exactly do you disagree with? Hopefully I laid out all my opinions clear enough there.
