Rep in itself is a flawed concept. I mean, it's great to release content and have people give it up-rep; it lets you know like you've not just wasted 'x' hours, but to have total rep be a big green number under your name is kind of misleading.
Say, if someone's made 100 low quality wallpapers each with 1 'up-rep', they'd still have the same rep as someone else who'd maybe made 5 high-quality rigs each with 20 'up-rep's, and thus people would judge you both (off of total reputation alone) in the same way, despite an obvious skill gap.
Maybe a better system would be to have 'Total Reputation' as a second entity on your profile, and to have 'Average Reputation' under your name in a flashy green (or red) colour for the whole forum to base their opinion of you on. And maybe then it would mean something.
Or maybe not and I'm just stupid....
