Okay, there's some stupid stuff going on between Swift and 9redwoods and I just want to hopefully put an end to it, since people have been mentioning me and wanting me to be apart of it. Take it as you will, this is all I'm going to say on the matter, and I'm going to stay mostly neutral. Yes, neutral. Anything I say here should not be taken as a personal offense, because everyone is at fault and it can be fixed.
I'm going to explain everything either side is doing completely wrong and why this feud still exists. I'm telling you all this so you can understand where the problem lies, and so that we can fix this together. At this point it should be us against the problem, not us against each other.
First off, Redwoods and his pals. @9redwoods, you're a huge hypocrite. You tell Swift and Karyu to stop downvoting everything you say, and that the rep button should be used for things you agree or disagree with. But you do the exact same thing. You downvote what they say for the same reason they downvote you, because neither of you agree with each other. What both sides need to understand is that everyone is doing something wrong and everyone thinks they're right. You, Redwoods, don't take criticism well at all, and it rubs off on the criticism you give to other people. You have a fundamental misunderstanding of criticism and wallpaper-making in general and act like your way is the only sure-fire way to do anything. You give people advice that not even you follow in your own wallpapers, namely the whole camera angle thing. You seem insistent that placing it lower and facing up is the only way to make any wallpaper, since you comment that on every wallpaper ever. That is not how criticism works. That is terrible advice. The camera is meant to bring attention to certain areas of the wallpaper, and to possibly make it more exciting. Which means it's very conditional, every wallpaper is different. There is no one way to make a wallpaper, otherwise every wallpaper would suck. And when people call you out on this aspect, your two excuses are used interchangeably. One says "that's how I've always done my criticism" and one says "I've changed, I used to give that kind of criticism and now I don't". Which are complete polar opposites. Make up your mind or come up with a better excuse, because that's the reason no one falls for that bullshit. It feels like you don't actually know what people are telling you is bad, or just don't want to, so let me spell it out for you. You give bad criticism because you have a very strict and actually incorrect standard of wallpapers. There is a difference between short and blunt criticism and just not giving a shit. You're extremely unapologetic as well. You don't care that people don't like what you say because "that's just how you've always been". People get mad at your criticism because it doesn't actually help the creator of the wallpaper. Sure, it's not rude or anything, but it tries to get a mindset into the creator that we don't want them to have, which is that everything has to be a certain way, your way. And also that their work can only be improved if they do it the way you would do it. It's so frustrating to people because they know there's a problem, they just don't know how to call you out on it, and that's why you get so defensive when it's mentioned.
Then, of course, there's the rep circle. No matter how much the little rep circle over here can downvote yours, your circle with MikTRF and all those guys will always be enough to boost you back up. In that regard, we're all at fault, so it's best if we all just calm down and recognize that the digital down-arrow is pointless to the person we're fighting against, on BOTH SIDES. Let me repeat myself, BOTH WE AND YOU ARE AT FAULT. The rep circle argument is really stupid and I hope everyone reading recognizes that, because Redwoods could easily turn around and say the same thing about Foreign Affairs. Listen, rep circles aren't an inherently bad thing. Most of the time we don't even notice they exist, as with Redwoods right now. But they can also be weaponized, and that's when it becomes rep abuse. Soon enough, the upvote circle becomes a defensive downvote circle, hurting others while boosting itself. That sounds dramatic and yeah, it's stupid. But that's how it works. And it works.

Alright, now @Swift. Just like I said before Redwoods's, don't take this as a personal offense. I'm just stating my opinion on the current situation, everything can be fixed. Swift, I agree with you on a lot of the stuff you've said, but there are problems aside from your opinions on the matter. There is a point where it's healthier to just ignore them. And I know you've heard that a thousand times, so I'm going to elaborate. Clearly, the methods you've been using to argue against him are not getting to him at all. He's a lost cause, so I would just leave it. Don't give him the attention. If you downvote him, he accuses you of rep abuse. If you reply to him, he thinks it's blind hate. If you bring it to DMs or even Discord, it all ends with a plain misunderstanding of the other side's opinion, so there's honestly nothing else to do. And I know Redwoods is probably like "Yes, just leave it alone, Swift! It happened a long time ago so just leave it alone!" But Redwoods, you're guilty of the same thing. The same exact thing, actually. Redwoods, you are no better than Swift and Swift, you are no better than Redwoods in that regard. That part's on both of you.
And then there's the part where Redwoods and MikTRF downvote anything you and Karyu say, regardless of whether or not it's meant to hurt them. Yes, that is a valid thing to be concerned about. However, you need to remember that they think you do the exact same thing, which you might. There's no way to argue against it because they can argue the same points towards you and have just as little meaning. So, at that point, I would just report them and try not to stoop to their level. Revenge rep is never a good thing for anyone, because then you can't actually get someone punished for rep abuse because you're guilty of the same thing by definition. So stay level-headed, keep your head up, and let mods know about it without doing it yourself. It's a really easy pit to dig into, so don't let yourself fall into it. Because if there is actually something bad going on, the mods won't do anything about it if everyone involved is guilty of something.

Long story short, everyone is at fault for something, so it's best to be able to recognize your own problems, so you can avoid them in the future and let the mods handle anyone who isn't able to do so. Both of you. Don't think that just because I'm calling the other person out that you're not at fault for the same thing, that's a really easy mindset to get into. Redwoods, you are at fault. Swift, you are at fault. Mik and Karyu are at fault too.

Ooh boy here comes another opinion.
So I was talking with a close relative today, she's a hardcore feminist with a mug that says Male Tears. It's good to get the other side of the argument alright? So she was ranting about stuff and eventually we came to the topic of the definition of feminism and why some people don't call themselves feminists even though they believe in equal rights. Pretty surface-level stuff. She said that if you believe in equal rights you are a feminist. Of course, I disagree with that. I mean, "femin" is in the word, it implies the movement to get females to a higher standard of rights, and that's what the word was spawned off of in the first place.
Now, this kind of continues some thoughts from the last opinionated status update I made. No one has the right to tell you what you classify as because of the nature of your opinion. If you believe in equal rights (like me) but don't believe in other aspects of feminism, the sole fact you believe in equal rights should not dictate whether or not you are a feminist unless you say it. Like, if you enjoy baked beans and like chili, no one has the right to tell you that you enjoy burritos because they have beans in them. That might be a confusing analogy but get what I'm saying? Feminism is a broad spectrum, and believing in equal rights is so broad it's not even a spectrum. People with strong opinions on either side have a tendency to associate anyone with a particular opinion with a broader concept that also likes that idea. For example, calling you a homophobe because you don't think pride month is helpful. Just hearing someone say that will trigger in some people's minds that this person hates gay people in general. Why?
I guess it's just easiest for people to argue against the broad stereotype rather than complex individual opinions, but that makes for some misunderstandings in conversations and kind of why we disagree so much. Because a lot of the time, you're not even arguing with each other. You're arguing with the inflated, exaggerated example of whatever challenges your opinion the most. That doesn't feel like how we should be talking about political issues, especially on a larger scale. I'm going to stop calling you a liberal named John, and you'll stop calling me a conservative named Rollo. I'll call you John. Because your opinions are your own, I don't need to associate John with liberalism, because then I'm not talking to John. I'm suddenly talking to John: Liberal Edition. See what I'm getting at there?
I dunno, I took a while to get to the point and it kind of just accentuates what I said in my last one, but hey. Talking about this stuff is fun.

Modern-day political discussions have been getting pretty silly in my opinion. I think we've lost the whole concept of political debate in favor of falsely painting some other person or group as xyz. Especially in the United States. Debates have become less about opinions and more about labels. And that sounds really broad and vague but let me elaborate.
Instead of listening to, well, your opinion, people will usually immediately link you up with a label such as conservative, feminist, fascist, alt-right, some more extreme than others. That's not how arguments are fought. Because if you disagree with a liberal in terms of immigration, you're a MAGA hat-wearing racist/fascist. If you believe in women's rights, you're a feminist. If you're not a feminist, you're sexist. If you don't like the idea of women with bionic arms in Battlefield 5, you're an alt-right troll. Oh yeah, and you're sexist too.
Why do we do that? Like I said, it defeats the whole purpose. Because from that point on, you're not arguing against the same points. You're arguing with the most exaggerated personification of the "opposite side" of the spectrum. By the way, on the topic of "opposite side", there is none. The problem I've been talking about got so out of hand that people don't even consider you to be anywhere on the political spectrum except left or right. Politics is such a wide concept, why tell someone (and yourself) that you have to be on one "side?" If I wanted stronger gun control, that doesn't give you the right to tell me I'm a liberal. If I like what president Trump is doing, that doesn't give you the right to tell me I'm conservative. I believe whatever I want, I don't need a bandwagon to get me moving. And you don't either. If you believe in women's rights but don't like other things some extreme feminists do, you're not obligated to call yourself a feminist. If someone tells you that if you believe in equal rights you're a feminist, they can screw right off. You know that's not what feminism really means, they know it too. You don't need a label for your complicated soup of opinions.
The political spectrum is much wider than left and right. You have your very own spectrum, and you don't need this garbage to tell you what you believe. I saw an article the other day titled "Donald Trump’s Message Resonates With White Supremacists". Basically it talked about how something he said on Twitter was an opinion also shared by white supremacists. If I understand correctly (because news outlets like this tend to dodge the point and sources to further push their agenda), he tweeted a quote from Mussolini saying “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep”. And then some actual white supremacists were like "yeah I like his opinion, good quote". And then suddenly Donald Trump is a white supremacist as well? That's such an outlandish and out-of-the-blue thing to say. Yeah, people are allowed to agree with what someone says, just as much as you are to disagree. If you don't like that he quoted Mussolini, or the quote itself, that's alright. But I don't think anyone has the right to tell you you're a white supremacist, especially from something as stupid as a quote.
Going back to the point, we've gotten so used to this that it's customary. This is why liberal media is so often called "fake news", and why I even have to call it liberal media. Because it's not news at all. It's not. It is completely opinionated, biased, exaggerated and sometimes fabricated in favor of their opinion. Of course liberals aren't the only ones guilty of this, it's just the most prominent recent example. And that's just how media works. It's kinda sickening that literally nobody can talk about these things without associating the person they're talking to with an overarching demographic, and by extension mistake what they say and to put words in their mouths.
TL;DR: Political discussions are really painful when the person you're talking to thinks you're an extremist for disagreeing with them. We do things like this and then wonder why the other person just doesn't get it. Why we're constantly left with "Why is this person so dense? Why can't they just agree with me?" It's because no one's actually arguing at that point. At least not to each other, and not about their actual opinions. It baffles me how we let ourselves dig this whole so deep. What I want you to take away is that your opinion is your own. You are not this or that because you believe xyz. Labels should never tell you or anyone else what you actually believe. You don't have to call yourself a liberal or a conservative, or even a moderate. You don't have to say that you're just in the middle. Because there is no middle. There is no right, there is no left. There is no spectrum. It's a scam. It's fake. It is actually nonexistent. Your opinion is your opinion, and it always will be.
