I probably should have included this in my post, but for some reason if i delete the counter variable it just goes down one line (and stays there after the syntax error check) and keeps going until i delete the entire bottom part... (including the brackets at the bottom)

@Jake_28 To be honest I still don't know how to fix the issue, your best bet is to just go with the for loop.

I figured it out and now I feel dumb

I forgot to add a file in file_text_close(file)

though the error was on he wrong line..
