I've seen these before. I believe it has to do with your friend's computer, probably his graphics card.

Ontopic:It seems to be a graphics card problem. Tell your friend to install the latest drivers, and if that doesn't work, maybe install the latest DirectX.

Other than that I can't think of anything else

No idea how to help but after looking at the lines, they appear to be formed of dots, possibly a texture for the MI UI.
