With the clouds effect, I would suggest to make the clouds black rather than white, then turn down the saturation of the whole picture.

First, you're complaining about superflat, I don't see where is the problem with it... And now, why are you complaining about lighting... It doesn't matter... Everyone is not always good as arts, okay. But just for a little detail... It doesn't matter...
