I have noticed here at times where people misuse the status update system for it's intended purpose: to post updates. Okay, so sometimes there are threads that would be better off than a status update, and the converse alike. So what would qualify as a status update?

What should be a status:

A status update is something typically small. Perhaps along the lines between 1 sentence to one paragraph.

A small update of something not related to topics.

Links outside of mine-imator forums (Like images or youtube videos)

What would be better a thread:

If your status goes beyond the character limits. (about 250 characters)

A large update to something. Can be related to threads.

An update that is expecting large responses. (Typically a discussion that would be better suited for a thread so users don't have to mind their limits)

What should never be on a status update:

A link to a thread on the forums It's just advertising and not many people want to read that.

Anything that reveals personal information, and anything that breaks the rules. (The basic wools appwy blah blah)

If you have any further input on what goes where, lemme know.

On the topic of advertising - if your topic does happen to be buried by recent topics, or you're looking to get your topic out to more people, try putting it out on other forms of media where more people will see it before putting it in a status.
