  1. I think David has given more to the community than any single person should be asked. I expect that if a group of people take over the bulk of development that David won't stop either. I will be trying to learn, but It will take some time, I know programming, but not the gamemaker platform, so time.

  2. We arn't all bad, give it a little more time for us to get to know you. I thought it was interesting to see your depth of field experiments. You are already working on learning some of the advanced features. I was also impressed that you were working with interesting scenery because many people never get past moving steve around on a flat grass world. You seem to have skipped using steve all together and picked out a rig and figured out how to manipulate it a little.

This to me is pretty darn impressive, not because the animation is very good, but because you have clearly begun to visualize what is possible with the software and are learning many features at the same time. If you keep working at it, you will be able to make great progress in very little time.

  3. I have a pretty large project that I have been working on in 1.0.4 and I updated to 1.0.5 yesterday.

When I try to create a new particle spawner it causes duplicates of every part of every entity in the timelines. There is no 'crash' but I stopped right away because I didn't want to corrupt the project, it seems fine when I reopen it, but creating a particle spawner causes even more duplicates this time.

I will try to get a reliable way to repeat this behavior if it's specific to my project, but hopefully it's easier to spot for you since you know your code.

I have been programming for a very long time, so I understand how it goes, let me know asap if there is any way I can help.

This bug is simple to recreate. Make a new project with a human and a zombie. Create a high fire particle spawner and bam! You will have 3 humans 3 zombies and a particle spawner.

  4. Very good job of creating a mood with obvious attention to your color palette and some good lighting and depth of field examples. I give you high marks on all of those areas and enjoyed your use of textures. There was plenty of variation to your camera speed and angle to create interesting movement to the cinematic portions of the video.

My critical commentary is for the animation, it seems to have been an afterthought. If the characters had not moved at all, it would hardly have detracted from everything else.

Also, one question I am left with: Why are the remains of Boston a single radio tower and a trailer?o.O

  5. Check out this cool video I found. This is a real person doing a backflip. It won't translate exactly to what would look best for a minecraft character animation. I think the most important is the build up and tuck.

Even if it doesn't help with animation, I thought it was a cool video.

Just to note that today and tomorrow are the last days to post entries! The post has been updated with everyone who has finished their entries.

    **Works frantically to finish project

I have a 20 second animation with lots of lighting and particle effects that I have been working on since the beginning. I would like to put more polish on it, but I need several hours to just do the sound which I needed to wait till the final to sync. Please don't count me out.

Hmm It doesnt seem that realistic.. But nice effort

I think it goes without saying that this is a 'superhuman' kind of action. This will be really great for a fight or parkour animation. The action that you have so far has lots of energy and feels 'natural' for a superhero if that makes sense.

  8. Good Work. I don't see anything 'wrong' with it, but I might suggest a few areas where you could focus if you want to improve it.

From the point of jumping on to the pressure plate until the end, Steve is rather rigid. Jumping, placing a block, and falling could all be more stylized. This isn't really a matter of right or wrong, but telling a story with movements.

I can tell you already spent some time on it. I look forward to seeing more from you.

    lucky...

Luck is when Preparation meets Opportunity.

You sure are lucky when you are working really hard and then it actually results in something good!

Keep up the great work Kicks!!!!

we know, but anyone could do that in a matter of minutes, so this is kinda useless.

    Critical Much?

I never thought about how to do this type of thing, so on the positive, I now have two choices, use this one, or make my own using the instructions posted here.

  11. It's good. A little crazy to be sure. It told a story which is a very important thing for an animation to do. I think you have a ton of potential.

Suggestions: use a schematic from any world you have locally to give more interesting backdrop than just grass.

I don't feel like this animation needs to be critically viewed because it's just fun and not trying to be ground breaking in it's style or anything.

  12. I finally figured this out.

I can't find the option. When I click Create it only says "Topic" Then I search the option but I can't find it!!!!

I had to go to my -profile page- and then click the -edit profile- button in the top right area of the screen. About 5 lines down in the edit profile page there is a on/off slider to 'allow status updates'. Once you save that change to your profile, the 'status' option will appear in the 'create' drop down.

I'm not sure why this was turned off by default?? I am guessing it hasn't always been that way because older members don't seem to have ever had this problem. Hope this helps.
