Here's a suggestion to new updates.

Honestly, I think there should be a button you click on and it brings you to 3 options to: Make a block, Make a player, or Make an item once you click on one it gives you a selection of colors, or custom colors. There it has a screen full of pixels and a bar of buttons on the side. The bar of buttons are: Color's, Custom color's, Back to animator, Copy color, and Clear. The screan full of pixels is the Item, Block, or Character and when you click a color it picks it up. Once you've done that what ever pixel you click it wil make it that color. I think this would be very helpful for those who would like to make new mobs, cool items, and awesome blocks.

So you want a built-in image editor for editing items? Why not just use one of the many free ones out there like Paint.Net, Gimp etc.? Skie has a nice tutorial on that.
And a mob designer is planned, which can also be used to create new blocks obviously.
