Transperancies

So, I know there's been a lot of work on textures and all, but in terms of transperencies, how do we get them to work? when I try editing my items.png or hats on my skins and textures, the transperancies end up black. Is this a bug, known issu, or am I just doing it wrong?

Because you use paint.

Or some kind of program that cant handle transparency correctly , like Photofiltre.

GIMP and paint.net are good free ones as well. And make sure you are saving the edited files as .png

I use Paint.net but it has the same bug...

I save it as .png file but same sh*t happends.

Okay, I think i know your problem. A big question you need to know is, "Did you get the texture/skin/etc. from a zip file or an archive?"

When I tried using a texture pack for custom items, but it got a black background just like yours. The solution I found was to make a new image file, and copy/paste the non-transparent (just the coloured pixels and such) onto that. It's a long and tedious process, but I think it's worth it.
