I've been messing around with cameras and surfaces.

the portal is too big. make it smaller.

I've tried to make portals rectangular, but scaling also affects the image:

Try using a cylinder, then make the detail go down too 4 so it is a rectangle

It doesn't exactly work. Image is stretched over middle faces.

I guess you have to pose the camera in a right angle

I made it. I've changed a few scaling options of the cylinder-rectangle and it looks pretty good:
