Parenting items in 1.0.0?

Can someone describe in detail how to parent items in the newest 1.0.0 version?

I want steve to carry a torch and pickaxe in his hand in the same position no matter how I move HIM.

Select the instance you want to parent, then in Properties, below Info there's Hierarchy  Select it, and then you can parent.
