If you import a schematic with glass panes next to each other then they should already be arranged in the manner you built them. If that makes any sense, it doesn't make any to me, and I'm typing it.]

 

*Smooth lighting is achievable with a bit more work using the light object.

Yeah, this image doesn't really help. But if you need sideways logs in a schematic, you could always add some of these and place them over the normal wood blocks.
