How To Make Firearms Work?

I'm unsure how to phrase it, but it's very difficult for me to naturally pose characters holding firearms. Whether it be holding a rifle with a pistol grip or a regular horizontal grip. What could I do to make it look a bit better?

Certainly better than what I could whip up! So hard to translate real world posing and such to Minecraft characters!
