No, render depth is the order in which things are rendered in the scene. It's useful for if you use transparent blocks in an animation like glass, if you don't increase its render depth nothing behind it will appear (you can try this yourself by just importing a schematic with glass in it and increasing the render depth), and the same deal with skins and textures with partially transparent parts. By rendering an animation I just mean exporting it though. You can change an animation's export resolution when exporting with a drop-down.
