Skin Highlights

 So, I'm trying to do a Steve and Alex type of animation, and I want to add highlights to the skins I'm using- the steve from the mc_mojang texture pack. But, I don't know how to do it. If you still don't understand what I mean, if you know Skincraftxza, I mean how he does it. I asked him... and what he said didn't really make sense, (grammar not clear) so when I tried it... it got all blurry. Can someone please tell me how to do it? It'd be very helpful.
