Try and make the steve look at the mobs and don't use MI's schematics, use your own. And make it impossible to see the flatlands at all times.

Like the others said, you should make the posing more realistic. Maybe look up a reference image on google like "image of person holding sword", and copy that. That's what I do sometimes, it really works. 

Also a good tip for when you make scenes that take place in the dark is to change the Ambient Color,or the Nighttime Color to a dark blue so that you can see the sides of characters that aren't lightened up by the torch better.
