      I'd assume it's because although this community's fairly small, it's pretty tight-knit and active.

      That and Minecraft's remained extremely popular over the past decade and as such MI has stayed relevant.

    A lot of these things apply to Mineimator as well. Especially the rim lights in dark scenes.

      The source engine has precomputed raytraced lighting on maps, but the lighting is similar (except for map shadows, the precomputed shadows on source engine maps don't cast properly on objects).
