some minecraft update/mod thing i had a dream of yesterday:
official mod support
universal coding language support
new flexible game engine
more flexibility on command blocks (examples: custom sounds, text to speech, block easing, gravity, custom light placement) (along with easier use with viewport and preview)
server downloadable content, such as mods and others
procedurally generated variety of blocks
combat overhaul: tactical cover, fluid close combat
world generation style (and overall gameplay) selection:
futuristic
western
fantasy
modern
retro
classic
moddable
------------------------
3D skin support
destruction and mechanical physics (except for trees)
character (humanoid shaped) creature selection with specific perks that can be disabled on server settings
mechanical redstone things (hinges, motors and others, allowing redstone experts to be more creative than ever, even allowing for making guns!)
no top building limit
explorable solar system
procedurally generated story-like intro when you create a world
auto local server discovery
server list
interaction with dropped items (Example: flint and steel dropped on tnt (or dropped with a dropped tnt) makes the tnt explode)
goodbye microsoft, hello (insert good videogame company here)
dynamic music in c418 style
default textures back to old (except for the swords)
new movement system: proning, crouch jumps, sliding and along with smooth and fluid animations
VR, who wouldn't want it
emotes
alot more mobs, i don't even know what mobs
anything from this could be disabled, and legacy style mechanics can be chosen by player
DX12/Vulkan
probably never going to happen though ;-;

there is an ambitious mod being worked on that would replace minecraft's opengl 2.1 render with one written in C++, making use of vulkan and directx12. https://github.com/NovaMods/nova-renderer
