Heh, YouTube Rewind is completely our fault. Genuinely. It's because of the commenters that praised the "fake" YouTube Rewinds, or "What YouTube Rewind Should Have Been Like" videos. There is nothing but praise, "Wow, this is better than the real YouTube Rewind!" feedback on those videos, which may I remind you, follow a VASTLY different format than the official YouTube Rewinds. Not a single soul would have said "Hey, I enjoy these alternative Rewind videos as compilations and recaps, rather than the reenactments of the official Rewinds (which I'll remind you is a VERY potent formula)! This is understandable considering budgetary constraints of the fan-made rewinds. I enjoy it more because it is different." This thought has occurred in EVERYONE'S MIND but there were no objections against YouTube copying this format. Some YouTube CEO figured that the compilations are what people wanted; no objections because of the praise; and now everyone got what they wanted. Which not a single person said what they wanted.
Thanks for reading.

Perhaps they should actually ask the users what they want, instead of making assumptions and proceeding to come off really salty about it?

to be honest i did appreciate how rewind 2018 had youtube try something new. the more story-driven format in that video was interesting and could have worked had they included the right people. however, for rewind 2019 they've returned to their roots and made a top 10 using their own analytics; certainly safer and less polarizing, but not anything that brought something new to the table.
plus 2018 had more memes so there's that

I don't think it's purely the fact that it's a Top 10 video that everyone hates it; it's the fact that it's exceedingly personal, demeaning and reeks of salt.
"In 2018, we made something you didn't like.
So in 2019, let's see what you DID like.
Because you're better at this than we are."Not to mention almost all of the entries were literally shown for less than two seconds. The whole thing seems needlessly rushed.
