When selecting a skin for a human character, would it be possible to add a "fetch from skin servers" option?

That way, we wouldn't need to use anything else to download a skin and import it into Mine-imator.

At first, it could try downloading an image from https://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftSkins/'s servers.

If that fails then it could try grabbing it from http://minotar.net/skin/'s servers.

Just a thought that I suppose could make the animation preparation process more streamlined :)

On an unrelated note, check out minotar.net for more info on what they can do, they've got some pretty cool shtuff there as well. Here are some examples:

That's actually a really good idea... TIME TO MESSAGE The Glorious David!!!

One thing though, Minecraft changed their server for skins, now they use Amazon's mass servers, so you would have to use https ://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftSkins/yourusername.png

Heh, yeah. The images on this computer I'm using are broken, so I assumed the skin image under "Minecraft Skin" would work on any other computer. My bad, I'll edit it. ;)

Like this?

Doesn't all that space under the image signify that the next Mine-imator will have 1.8 skin support? (This is purely speculation, but it seems likely as newer skins would not have that leftover space, and would be instead much smaller (64x32 as apposed to the new format 64x64)

As far as I can remember, the skins for all mobs has always been 64x64. You are correct, though, the pre-1.8 skins are only 64x32.

I'm almost certain that there will be 1.8 skin support, it would actually be quite easy: copy the hat layer code and modify the model and UV mapping points (I hope I'm not underestimating the ease). Whether or not we can edit the position of the extra layers, we'll have to see. :)

It wouldn't  be that easy, he would have to find the right spot on the image, and then copy it onto the right part of the model. But I don't make games what do I know.

That's what UV mapping is ;)

Finding the coordinates is quite simple, using most image editors.
